Ukrainische Kriegstote 1941-1955
Project “Ukrainische Kriegstote 1941-1955”
Remembering the dead is part of human culture, and commemorating the fallen and war dead on both sides is part of coming to terms with and processing the traumatic experiences of war for future generations. This also applies to the approximately 90,000 war dead from the Second World War from the former Soviet Union who were buried in Austrian soil, mostly in local cemeteries.
With the aim of compiling a list of Ukrainians among the Soviet war dead from 1941-1955 who are buried in Austria, the LBI for War Consequences Research began work in June 2023 as part of a project funded by the BMI.
