Austrians in the British Army: new online portal launched!
As part of the project „Austrian exiles as commando soldiers in the British forces“, Robert Lackner presented his new online portal at an event at the Brisith Embassy in Vienna.
In cooperation with the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Research on the Consequences of War, the British Embassy in Vienna hosted a reception at the Ambassador’s residence on 14 May 2025 to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. On that occassion, Robert Lackner presented the new online portal about those Austrians in exile who served in the British Army’s most secretive commando unit during the war: No. 3 Troop of No. 10 (Inter-Allied) Commando.
Beforehand, LBG Managing Director Elivra Welzig gave a brief introduction alongside Ambassador Lindsay Skoll and Military Attaché Ewan Harris. Ladi Broadman, the son of commando Geoff Broadman alias Gottfried Konrad Sruh from Vienna, who had travelled from the UK with his son Ander Broadman for the event, provided the very moving conclusion.
The new online portal is bilingual and freely accessible. It provides short biographies, an essay as well as a database of all Austrian soldiers who served with No. 3 troop and No. 10 (Inter-Allied) Commando.
